1 Day on the Gem Mine – Searching for Crystals and Gems

Always in search of a brand new adventure, my children chose to visit a gem mine couple of hours away to hunt for crystals and gems. I wasn’t sure what you should expect, however was excited nonetheless.

I realized that mines can work with various ways. Some have prefilled buckets of dirt. The owners in the mine will require buckets with dirt raised from your mine and let you proceed through them looking for gemstones. Some owners will prefill the buckets by incorporating crystals and gems to make sure that everyone reaches find something.

The mine that individuals visited worked a bit differently and is also what is known a cost dig. A charge dig is when you spend a set fee of money which enable it to collect everything you find. Think whether or not this like leasing the land to mine for gems to get a given period of time, in this case, every day.

When we got there, we brought in our very own five gallon buckets, as instructed on their website. We met owners on the main office and paid a set fee for each individual. This entitled us into a bucket’s price of whatever we found and wanted to acquire.

We descended the hill toward the principle digging areas. Individuals who owned the mine will bring up dirt from underground, then spread out from the digging areas employing a bulldozer for individuals to undergo.

Using their hands and shovels, we all got down and dirty and commenced trying to find crystals and gems amongst the dirt. Lacking a credentials in geology, I became worried that individuals would discard something valuable. Not to worry though, because there were always friendly people around to help out and keep us from throwing back anything worth keeping.

As a way to increase your experience before on the way to the mine, use guide books to know what kind of minerals are usually based in the area that you are visiting.

Also, bring a field guide along with you by visiting the mine. Gemstones of their natural form look quite distinct from the polished or cut versions most people are informed about.

To assist obtain the smaller gems on the list of dirt, most mines may sluice. This is typically a wooden channel with flowing water. You take a scoop of dirt make it inside a sieve, then set it in the running water. The water will wash away small pieces of dirt and clay, leaving behind rocks that you can pick through.

Be careful, though, that smaller crystals with potential value don’t get washed away, and if you’re unsure if something you have may be worth keeping, always ask someone. We ended up finding several nice crystals and gems on that day at the mine, and thus are you able to!
