Every hairstylist remember the moment they became attracted to hair as well as the adoration for creativity it inspires. The storyline had not been different for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kristyl Rodrigues who discovered her desire for hair while enrolled at Bellus Academy’s school of cosmetology in Poway, California. There Kristyl was studying cosmetology and pursuing a specialist beauty education. In her own story, there is a valuable message that can be shared. “It doesn’t matter where you begin or the method that you begin. I would like to be capable of spark that passion into people where we’re causeing this to be industry ten times better, we’re gaining knowledge from our past and we’re continuing that legacy,” shared Kristyl. We have found her story.
A symptom: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and was enlisted at the age of 19. Her first duty station what food was in Okinawa, Japan, followed by an industry operation in Korea. Weekly during Kristyl’s period in Korea, a barber would look at the site and provides haircuts on the Marines. Then again, this happened: “I what food was in a tent doing my own hair,” shares Kristyl. “I definitely do shape ups and line ups personally, nothing too crazy, when I had a Marine Sergeant come up to me and get me for any haircut. I needed never cut anybody’s hair before however jumped directly into it and he wound up loving it…and along with his outreach and leadership, literally the next day, I had created 13 Marines prearranged to me.”
This is actually the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering as being a future career-she chose charging $5 a haircut understanding that was it. Having a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair in the days. What Kristyl learned was profound: Hairdressers touch more hearts than heads each time you service a customer, there’s impact.
The outcome of your Haircut
“As a Marine, the factors for appearance are in an all-time high. The uniform should be squared away and ironed. Everything needs to be flush, measured properly-there’s a great deal of focus on detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was considering Marines from head to toe. It tore up my heart because we’re the finest people on this nation and we must be walking on therefore. That’s in which the impact over the internet and heart originated in, and I seriously considered able to transmit that through my hands to those around me…and ask them to walk around feeling proud and good from top to bottom, and representing this nation consequently.”
Similarities In Service: Military & Barbering
After coming back from service, Kristyl asked herself what the next challenge and chapter in her own life will be. That’s when she decided to pursue her education like a barber at Bellus Academy. Learning from her background and anticipating, she found many similarities in their service and becoming a barber.
