To tend your own self is easier in theory if you are the caregiver of the seriously ill child. Add to that other children, a spouse, cooking, cleaning, laundry, appointments, pets, church, members of the family or perhaps an outside job and caring for you goes to the bottom of the list. Here are a couple suggestions to place you at the top again without feeling guilty.
1. Delegate…. There isn’t any rule that claims you should do it all, regardless if you are the mom or perhaps the dad. Let others help, delegate smaller age appropriate jobs to another siblings, and divide chores using your spouse. And this includes the care to the sick child. Nobody person can do it all.
2. During points in the acute illness, have prepared or prepackaged meals readily available within the freezer. There’s nothing wrong which has a frozen pizza once in a while. Or make simple meals like scrambled eggs and bacon or pancakes. Have berries on hand too, for the quick pick me up and an easy snack to suit your needs.
3. Do household bills on the same day month after month instead of many times a month. Whenever your child may be ill, the days and weeks run together therefore it is better to anticipate some day for bill paying. You’re less inclined to miss a bill in fact it is much easier.
4. Plan to handle emails, phone calls, and other household business exactly the same… on one day monthly or one day every week. Assign a spokesperson for family to the sometimes in the month saving your time to your child or rest on your own.
5. Utilize the social service department of the child’s hospital , nor let pride get in the way if the family needs something extra. Social personnel are educated to help families handle the worries of a chronically ill child plus they can talk to siblings, help find financial solutions, and liaison between friends and family.
6. Leave the guilt behind if you have a few minutes to yourself. Like a hot bubble bath, savor meals made by someone else, or perhaps be content when another has cleaned or done laundry, even when it’s not up to your standards.
Allow yourself permission to chill or read or perhaps sit quietly hearing the birds a short while everyday. It’s going to go a long way to keeping you sane and refreshed.
