The Lion King at The Fox Theatre

For a long time I have been not able to catch this broadway tour in multiple cities. Something has long been in the manner. Between work, travel and anything else I always missed this show. In 2018 all that changed. I’d the grand privilege of attending media night for the Lion King Musical at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. Talk about the most fitting spot for this type of unprecedented ensemble.


I had been a young child when the movie premiered in theaters. My mother took my siblings and that i as to what could be just about the most celebrated Disney Classics ever. The broadway shows nyc. The story was new for me but the message of hope was familiar. The songs like “The Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata” could possibly be heard in our household for a long time. To see my personal favorite childhood movie performed over a live stage with this most prestigious venue would be a dream be realized.

This production is very honestly probably the most visually entrancing theatrical presentation that i’ve ever seen. From start to finish, my senses were thrilled. Because the house lights dimmed, the drums started plus it was showtime. Buyi Zama was outstanding as Rafiki. She was the comic relief through the show. Her costume stood out and her performance was memorable.

Vibrant colors and abstract art laced the complete stage. The adaptation of Mufasa, as carried out by Gerald Ramsey, was riveting. I had been so captivated by the headpiece that he wore. He was able to fling it around as if it was second nature. Clearly it absolutely was.

The dancing was simply captivating. It took me back to my days in a dance company. The performers executed choreography seamlessly while gliding on the stage with grace. I saw a number of ballerinas too. They’re one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever witnessed on any platform.

Young Simba and Nala were remarkable performers. I really could tell which they labored at their craft and understood blocking. It is essential for young performers to know the skill. It must result from a real place. I can’t know them however i am proud.

Greg Jackson performed fault Zazu. I kept a watchful eye on him the whole time. He blew my head along with his quick wit while handling his puppet. I loved it!

Timon and Pumbaa were just as I remembered them as a kid. The rebel duo of the jungle. Their props were impressive. I could not help but to sing in addition to “Hakuna Matata”.

Mark Campbell totally section of Scar far too well. His headpiece was fun to watch too. The last scene with Mufasa remains tough to watch. My heart sank because he fell to his death.

Adult Simba was played by Gerald Ceasar. His portrayal was noteworthy. There wasn’t any doubt that he was the real king.

Nia Holloway was extraordinary as Nala. From her costume towards the delivery of her lines, she was phenomenal. Not long ago i heard she attended school in Georgia. Yes, another budding star from your peach state!

After a while, I personally began to think that these actors were real animals. Their movements were very similar to the animal kingdom. Using their feathers, full mane and punctiliously crafted cloths this is an experience you could only fully appreciate live.

Audiences were drawn in in what happened before them, nevertheless it wouldn’t be possible without those behind the curtain. Experience has taught me a great deal about the industry. Especially how vital background staff are. I applaud all the unseen heroes that helped to produce such a magnificent show a success. A manufacture of this magnitude are few things with out them.
