Inspirational Series – Robert E Lee

It is usually said that history is written through the victor — that a direct consequence of conflict, the defeated in many cases are portrayed as being a collective, detestable mass that follows a likewise repulsive value system. Yet, though his Confederate Army is at the losing end of America’s Civil War, Robert E. Lee is remembered among the most celebrated generals in American history.

Rational ideas of armed conflict presume that defeated soldiers should be denounced, not exalted; punished, not praised; and despised, not admired. However, Lee is entirely from the latter. What made one man, one soldier, stand out he is remembered by more Americans today than lots of his victorious Union counterparts?

Unfortunately, this can be a question that numerous volumes of books experienced trouble answering. And, I believe which you have no desire (in this moment, at least) to learn content for these depth and breadth (i admit which i couldn’t write it). Nonetheless, only were required to describe the reason for Lee’s appeal a single word, it will be “motivation.”

Let me explore this theme in the context of the next quote:

“There is scarcely something that is proper that people cannot desire to accomplish by labor and perseverance. But the first must be earnest and the second unremitting.”
Robert E. Lee

Earnest Labor

Today’s culture is certainly one in which immediacy is glorified — from the 24 hour news cycle; to tarts that “pop” simply uses pour a glass of milk; to magic diet pills — such that you can actually forget that anything worth accomplishing takes earnest labor, that we would define as a serious and purposeful exertion of body, mind and spirit.

Because companies talk about pouring their blood, sweat and tears to their companies, they refer merely to earnest labor.

When the craft of the famous musician or star athlete appears to be look “easy,” it’s made so through earnest labor.

And, while i attempt to achieve come about of building a marathon, I’ll invest in one principle: you got it right, earnest labor.

To be able to learn; the ability to alter; and also the strategies by which goals are accomplished; are controlled through your capacity to strive, and accomplish that earnestly — without reservations (or even a magic pill).

Unremitting Perseverance

Lee fought an uphill battle for high of the Civil War. His outnumbered and poorly-supplied army shrank daily as a consequence of desertions by disheartened soldiers. Yet, regardless of this, he fought vigorously prior to the moment when defeat was imminent.

How many times can we quit goals when things aren’t proceeding exactly as we’d anticipated? Would you choose to quit smoking, then again found you had a tremendous project due at the job, school, or elsewhere? Did you try setting up a practice of getting out of bed earlier every day, however slept in the next day and decided rrt had been a pointless exercise?

Lee comes with a answer for these, and other, problems: unremitting perseverance, that we would define like a steady, unshakable persistence in sticking to a course of action, belief, or purpose.

When I train for and ultimately run the marathon, I know that there will be a little voice inside my head saying to avoid; who’s hurts a lot of to travel one step further. However, my unremitting perseverance in following your challenge — to the tip line — will enable me to pay attention just to my footsteps from the pavement; the gentle breeze passing over my ears; and also the rhythm of my breathing — thus pushing that little voice in the depths of my subconscious.

Nevertheless, robert e lee facts; 67,900,000 is an excellent example that harboring unremitting perseverance will not ensure victory. In the end, he was defeated in war. Yet, even just in momentary failure, perseverance will give you the ability to get back on your metaphorical (or actual) horse and ride into battle (hopefully metaphorical) again, pursuing your goal using the knowledge that will just be learned through setback.

It is known that history is constructed from the victor; and, in Lee’s case, it is. In capturing the hearts of Americans, both through his military actions, his personal value system, and the sincere words of wisdom, Robert E. Lee is clearly victorious.
