If you consider Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking usually are not the 1st issues that spring into mind, at least it was not for me. More probable images of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest as well as the mysterious Himalaya pop to your head. So you can imagine my surprise while i got to Nepal and wound up rafting and kayaking more than 10 times!
When you in Thamel or Pokhara (the primary touristy area’s in Nepal) you will find travel companies all around us, i immediately decided rafting was something I had to do inside my time in Nepal. The initial decision to produce is which river to go on. Nepal offers many of the worlds best rivers, starting from a gently flowing river to some of the fiercest whitewater in the world. So according to your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s most definitely something for anyone! The most suitable times to travel are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run all year round the river will likely be at its highest, fastest, and many exhilarating during these months.
Selecting a company to match can establish a lttle bit tricky though! There are several travel companies lining the streets, however, choosing one between the other is nearly impossible…Each will offer virtually exactly the same prices, nearly exactly the same trips and promise a good time you have ever had! However there are plenty of companies on the market, it’s actually a shame to say that are immediately after your dollars. It is important to look for a registered company that have safety process in place. I finished up picking GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the organization owner, a couple of times around Thamel I trusted which he would deliver what he promised, after doing a bit of research I stumbled upon he is the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship to the second time, I felt I needed made the best decision and will be in safe hands.
Your way on the river was amazing itself. Coming from the valley you are greeted by a classical life-style. Women making an effort inside the rice paddies inside their saris, looking more glamorous than I really could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on their own heads walking down the highway to college; Gorgeous mountains without anyone’s knowledge; Random Buffalo dotted throughout the scene to name just some things we got on our journey to the river. After 2 hours of staring hypnotised out the window we arrive at a small village equipped for your rafting needs. There were a small shed (a bit like the one imaginable Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) for you to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you have to before you begin per day around the river!
When coming to the commencement point, I realised I needed made the most suitable decision in going with GRG’s. There were about 20 rafts lined up and waiting to select various companies and ours was the only one with any safety kayakers. You will see where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!
This also is it, Maila and also the team got people suited and booted in life jackets, helmets, (depending on the weather, splash jackets were available) after a really informative safety talk we had been off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash inside your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
