If you consider Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking aren’t the first issues that spring into mind, well at least it was not to me. More likely pictures of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest as well as the mysterious Himalaya pop to your head. In order to imagine my surprise once i reached Nepal and ended up rafting and kayaking more than Much!
When you turn up in Thamel or Pokhara (the key touristy area’s in Nepal) there are travel specialists in all places, and i also immediately decided rafting was something I had to do inside my period in Nepal. The first decision to create is which river to be. Nepal offers lots of the worlds best rivers, starting from a gently flowing river to many in the fiercest whitewater on the planet. So determined by your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s definitely something for anybody! The best times to visit are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run throughout every season the lake will probably be at its highest, fastest, and a lot exhilarating over these months.
Selecting a company to match can be somewhat tricky though! There are several travel agents lining the streets, however, choosing one relating to the other is almost impossible…All of them offer virtually exactly the same prices, nearly the exact same trips and promise the optimum time in your life! However there are plenty of companies on the market, it’s really a shame to say which are right after your money. It is important to look for a registered company which may have safety process in place. I ended up picking GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the corporation owner, once or twice around Thamel I trusted which he would deliver what he promised, after doing a bit of research I stumbled upon he is currently the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship for your second time, I felt I had created made the best decision and will be in safe hands.
Your journey on the river was amazing by itself. Coming out of the valley you might be greeted by a more traditional life-style. Women making an effort inside the rice paddies in their saris, looking more glamorous than I could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on their own heads walking along the highway university; Gorgeous mountains in the shadows; Random Buffalo dotted throughout the scene to call only a few things we got on the journey to the river. After Couple of hours of staring hypnotised your window we attained a smaller village geared up for the rafting needs. There was clearly kayaking in Nepal (similar to the main one imagine Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) that will get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you need before you start each day around the river!
When going to first point, I realised I’d made the most suitable decision in going with GRG’s. There are about 20 rafts prearranged and waiting to match various companies and ours was on your own with any safety kayakers. You can observe where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!
And this was it, Maila along with the team got all of us suited and booted in your life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) after an extremely informative safety talk we had arrived off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash in your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
